The Buckeye Trail is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2009.

A founding member of the Buckeye Trail Association was legendary Appalachian Trail hiker Grandma Gatewood who grew up in Southeastern Ohio.

The original 6 miles of the Buckeye Trail are now known as the Grandma Gatewood Trail in the Hocking Hills Region.
